Daddy Day Care

Some friends of ours in the neighborhood are in the process of adopting a sibling group of three children - they are in for a ride considering that they currently have NO children! Thursday night Lillian and I went to an adoption shower for them and Scott had the older two at home while we were gone. The shower was a lot of fun and of course I knew Scott was taking good care of Caleb and Ella - he always does. We came home right as he was getting ready to put them in bed, and as Scott and I were talking some about the shower and our dear friends who have no idea what they are getting into, Caleb came into the room. Scott said to him, "What did you want to tell your mommy"? So Caleb starts into a list of words that he is spelling for me - all on his own!!! Cat, dog, God, dad, bat... maybe a few others I am forgetting. I was amazed, of course, but then started to wonder if maybe he had just memorized the words. Scott said he was actually sounding the words out himself and figuring out the letters. Ever since then, we have been asking him to spell various words and he always manages to sound them out correctly. They also had a Social Studies lesson that night - Caleb told me how many stars and stripes are on the American flag and what each of them signifies. I can't wait to see what I come home to next time... thank you Scott for being such a wonderful daddy.
