Coon-Zilla (or why my husband was late to work today)

Our newest infestation... raccoons. I guess it is better than the moths, roaches, cats or rodents we have had in the past! This is actually the second one we have trapped and we aren't even sure it is the last one. I am wondering now if this is what ate through the Easter stuff in the attic... plastic eggs, decorations, baskets and books. I thought it may have been our rodent friends but now I'm not so sure.

Believe it or not, there is a man who lives down the street from us who has had pet raccoons in the past. The poor guy is in a motorized wheelchair and for a while was living in a tent in someone's backyard. He said the raccoons kept him warm at night - so sad! He has since moved into the house by where his tent is so I am wondering if these are the same animals he abandoned.

Only In Our Hood...

Anyone know a good (cheap) plumber? This is how our washing machine has to drain right now because of the drain pipe overflowing. I am waiting patiently for the letter from Code Enforcement :) We also found out that we owe no property taxes this year because property values have decreased so much in our neighborhood. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry.

Please know that I am not posting these things to complain, but so we can look back many many years from now and see all the obstacles we have overcome when all of our house projects (inside and out) are done. :)

Only in Our Hood

This happened in our neighborhood the other night (well, not exactly in our neighborhood but sort of near us)... Shot assassination-style while his girlfriend watched it happen. He left behind 12 children, one of which hasn't even been born yet. Heart-breaking on so many levels...

This afternoon I was looking at our Bible reading for today and these verses in Deuteronomy really struck me, in light of the tragedy and especially those left in the wake of it:

But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in tribulation, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, you will return to the Lord your God and obey his voice. For the Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them. Deuteronomy 4:29-31

...would someone steal your cell phone from your yard where you didn't realize you had dropped it then the next day when you call the cell phone from your house phone to try to find it, call you back from said cell phone and offer to sell it back to you (your own phone) for what they "paid" for it.
